About the DTS

  • What is it?
The DTS is a five-month adventure that will deepen your faith and change your life. It is a time of restoration, learning, equipping, and going. At YWAM Minneapolis, you will be encouraged, challenged, mentored, and empowered in your walk with the Lord - to live life in a way that makes a difference in those around you and in the world. The first three months, the Classroom Phase, are spent here at YWAM Minneapolis growing in your relationship with God, with others and learning about how God is moving in the world. Our emphasis is on heart transformation and character development rather than on the accumulation of information. Through regular times of teaching, prayer, worship, personal sharing, and local outreaches, you will be given the opportunity to learn and grow.
  • Topics
Hearing God’s Voice; Developing Right Relationships; Embracing Your Identity in Christ; Understanding God’s Father-Heart; Studying the Bible; Knowing the Nature & Character of God; Interceding and Praying; Going and Being a Missionary; Cooperating with the Holy Spirit;  . . . and much more!
  • What you'll do
A Small Group: A small group of DTS students, led by staff, will meet each week to help process what you are learning, what God is doing in your life, and provide an opportunity for accountability. This is an amazing time for students to come alongside each other in friendship and prayer. One-On-One: Weekly you will meet with a staff member one-on-one. This is a time for you to have individual attention and prayer...to process, share and be cared for. Reading: Several books with accompanying written responses will be assigned as part of your learning and growing experience. Outreach in Local Communities: You will not only take in but give out as you join a team of staff and students and weekly share the love of God through evangelism or practical service in our local community.
  • Growing Together
DTSs come together for shared lecture times to engage with world-changing missionaries, pastors and leaders. Each week, at least 2 hours - often more - will be devoted to learning and growing in your specific DTS option. A sense of belonging and community is developed as you live alongside students from each DTS sharing small groups, meals, dorm-style living and fun activities. Life-long friendships are inevitable as you serve and reach out to others during local outreaches and other ministry opportunities.
  • Outreach
The second part of the school, the application of the lecture phase, is called “Outreach Phase” and is 8-10 weeks long. Outreach is what distinguishes DTS from other programs. It is more than you just being discipled, it is taking what you have gained and discipling others. Our outreaches are exciting opportunities to not only save souls but to offer hope and make a difference. From mercy ministry and humanitarian aid, to combating injustices like poverty, human trafficking, and hunger, to educating locals, to making friends with people on the other side of the world, each outreach is a unique experience. While locations for our outreaches vary with each DTS, one thing never changes; afterwards you will never be the same!
